"It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas"
We are excited for Christmas this year in England as last year we were away in Bali relaxing by our infinity pool overlooking the jungle. For us it never really feels like Christmas when you are away somewhere hot. As this year we would be back home in the UK we really wanted to get in the Christmas spirit and decided to go away for the weekend to visit the Christmas markets and get December off to the best start!
We were looking at several different European cities that we could visit. We wanted to go to one that had amazing Christmas markets. For us Copenhagen stood out because of it had Tivoli. Tivoli is where Walt Disney got his inspiration for Disney land. It also turns into one giant Christmas market from the first weekend of December.
We were itching to get away after a few busy months. After we landed we got a train from Copenhagen airport to our Airbnb. It was a beautiful city loft with big windows and beautiful wooden floors. We quickly noticed how the Danes didn’t really use curtains in their homes and apartments. I’m sorry to the people in the opposite apartment who might have seen more of me than they would have liked after the shower!
Arndal spa and fitness had invited us to spend the afternoon using their facilities and to have a massage. It was freezing outside and as soon as we stepped into the warm spa we knew it was going to be incredibly relaxing. We’d had a long day and spending the afternoon in the spa was the perfect way to finish the day.
For a city spa it has everything you need, fitness facilities, sauna, steam room and a large jacuzzi that was very hot and relaxing, perfect for our tired bodies. We also loved napping in the spas relaxed seating areas as we waited for our full body massages.
We came away from Arndal very relaxed and refreshed and ready to explore Copenhagen over the next few days.
We had also been invited to an Italian pizza restaurant called Rossopomodoro. I was very excited as I love pizza. We were welcomed by the staff and sat on the rooftop balcony. It was enclosed in a tent like structure and had outdoor heaters to keep the space nice and cosy. We had olives and brioche as our starter before ordering two delicious pizzas for our mains. The homemade lemonade was delcious. We had gelato for dessert and we rolled ourselves back to our Airbnb to get some sleep before exploring the city properly the next day.
The weather hadn’t been looking great but when we woke up we were happy to see that it was dry. We loved walking through the streets which just about had a Christmas market on every corner. Christmas trees were being sold and the smell of pine filled the air. All the shops had real Christmas trees in store and were selling decorations. The whole place felt extremely christmassy.
We planned on visiting Tivoli in the evening and it was more beautiful than we could have imagined. When we reached the ticket office after waiting in line we were greeted with a winter wonderland.
We rode on some of the rides and explored the park and the many different Christmas stands. The Christmas decorations and snow sprayed around the grounds made it feel like we had stepped into Narnia.
It was such an incredible place and we walked around mesmerised by the lights, rides and Christmas scenes. We loved our short break to Copenhagen. It was expensive as to be expected from a Scandinavian city. We were able to find some good cheaper places to eat. We felt like a weekend was more than enough to explore the city.
Thanks to everyone for following us along this year! we have been so lucky to have some of the adventures that we’ve been on and can’t wait to do more in 2019.
Happy Christmas everyone!
