How to get to Megève

By Bus

Megève is easy to reach, with great transport connections to most major towns and cities in France and is only an hour's drive from the closest airport Geneva.

There are direct buses to Megève which take around 1.5 hours. One of the best ways to travel is by train and as a more eco-friendly alternative to driving, the closest train station to Megève is Sallanches and from the train station, you’ll be able to get a direct bus to Megève.

By Car

If you are arriving by car to Megève, you’ll find many car parks that are both covered and open-air parking close to the village centre. It is worth checking the latest road information for the route to Megève including road works, road conditions and whether it recommends snow tyres for a section of road which is very useful.

HOW TO GET AROUND MEGÈVE 

The easiest way to get around Megève is by using the free bus shuttle service which runs up to Cote 2000 and Mont D’Arbois. All buses are powered by natural gas and is one of the many ways that Megeve is committed to sustainable change and protecting the environment.

WEEKEND ITINERARY

SATURDAY

Morning - Ski on the slopes of Megève 

Welcome to Megève! First stop is the nearest ski rental shop if you haven’t brought your gear with you, there are plenty of ski rental shops across the village. Collect your ski pass and hit the slopes! If it’s your first time skiing, don’t worry, Megève has dedicated beginner areas and we’d recommend you book a lesson with an instructor to get to grips with the basics.

You’ll be spoiled with well-groomed slopes, lined with fragrant pine trees and incredible views of Mont Blanc. From the centre of the village catch the Chamois cable car in the Rochebrune and then hop onto the connecting Caboche cable car. From the top of the slopes you will be treated to panoramic views of the surrounding mountains including Mont Blanc.

Ski your way across to Cote 2000, it is well-connected by the slopes and may take around an hour to get across including the lifts. You’ll arrive at Cote 2000 by the scenic blue run of pré rosset which leads you to stunning vistas of the Beaufortain massif and the majestic Aiguille Croche. Stop at Le Radaz for a scenic lunch spot, serving tasty, traditional dishes including Croûte Savoyard, Croziflette and homemade lasagne.

Afternoon - Balneotherapy at Le Palais

Catch the free shuttle bus from Cote 2000 car park, the bus runs every day, every 20 minutes during the ski season. The bus takes around 20 minutes to get back into the village of Megève. Drop off your ski gear and it’s time to spend the afternoon relaxing at Le Palais.

This is a real treat and the perfect remedy after an adrenaline-fuelled morning on the slopes. Soak your muscles at the balnéotherapy centre at Le Palais. The Balneo centre has wonderful spa facilities including an outdoor pool with views of the mountains, sauna, heated indoor pool and steam room. Catch the current of the lazy river in the outdoor pool and enjoy a feeling of serenity and calm at the balneo.

Evening - Walk around Megève village

After a chilled afternoon at the balneo, it’s time to explore the charming streets of Megève at night. In the evening, the village is transformed into something out of a fairytale. Follow the cobblestone lanes, lined with traditional wooden chalets draped with warm golden lights.

You may spot a horse drawn carriage accompanied by the sound of ringing bells. Satisfy your sweet tooth, with a warm waffle or crêpe with the many places dotted along the streets such as Crêperie chez Olivia or La Petite Crêperie.

Megève can be difficult on a tight budget, we’ve put together a list of affordable budget accommodations to the most luxury hotels. Megève is known as a more exclusive ski resort, with a limited option of budget places to stay it’s worth booking in advance for the best deals.

Budget £

Megève Le Sapin bat A

A private one-bedroom apartment with a garden view with free parking. The apartment is in a good location, only 400m from the Princesse ski lift. There is a living room, perfect for chilling after a day on the slopes and a kitchenette ideal for those who want to save money by cooking their own meals. Prices start from £77 per night.

Le Coin Savoyard

A beautiful and charming traditional alpine hotel with typical wooden furniture and a cosy feel. There is a restaurant, a heated swimming pool and massages are available at an additional cost. The hotel is located close to the slopes around 600m from Bouchet ski lift and prices start from £98 per night.

MID-RANGE ££

Au Coin Du Feu

This hotel is a traditional Savoyard hotel with a cosy lounge and fireplace. There is the option to have a room with a mountain view and comes with a private bathroom. Only 300m from Chamois Gondola Lift and prices start from £133 per night.

Les Loges Blanches

A traditional chalet hotel located only 500 metres from the centre of Megève and 200 metres from Jaillet cable car It features a beautiful outdoor heated swimming pool and sauna. Prices start from £136 per night.

Chalet de l'Ourson

Translates to the Bear Chalet, this picturesque ski chalet has everything you’ll need for your ski holiday in Megève, from cosy bedrooms, living room, kitchen, bathrooms, and free parking in a central location this is a great option for a group of friends or family. Prices start from £221 per night.

Luxury £££

L'Alpaga, a Beaumier hotel

This incredible hotel has a Michelin-star restaurant with hotel rooms and self-catering apartments on offer. The hotel also has a wonderful spa, outdoor sauna and Scandinavian bath with mountain views. Prices start from £665 per night.

Grand Hotel Soleil d'Or

This hotel is located in the heart of Megève, the Grand Hotel Soleil d'Or features luxury rooms that have beautiful big windows letting in lots of natural light. The nearest ski lift is the Chamois Gondola only 300m away. Prices start from £420 per night.


SUNDAY 

Morning - Brunch at Le River

Easy like a sunday morning, enjoy an indulgent lie in and once hunger strikes walk to Le River for brunch. This is a beautiful, cosy brunch spot, located right next to the river Planay in the middle of Megève village where you’ll be spoilt for choice with fresh juices, french toast and eggs benedict.

Midday - La Luge 4S 

Fuelled for the day ahead, now it’s time to make the most of your last day, you have to ride down the side of a mountain on a luge! There are two to choose from, the closest to the village centre is ‘La Luge 4S’ and there is a longer luge called ‘La Luge’ in Princess.

A great activity for children and adults, where you can choose whether you ride alone or together. La Luge 4S is located next to the Jaillet télécabine car park and you need to purchase your tickets for the La Luge 4S at the ticket counter before queuing. On your way back to the village centre stop by Pâtisserie Aux Délices de Megève for a treat or two!

Evening - Ice skate on the Patinoire 

As the daylight fades, and the evening draws it’s time to enjoy the outdoor Ice skate rink in Megève village! Put your ice skates on and glide across the ice whilst enjoying the beautiful evening scenes and maybe you’ll be treated enough to skate with snow which makes it feel like you’re in a movie.
