Where We Stayed Along The Garden Route

WHERE WE STAYED

We spent a total of two months exploring South Africa. We have listed below all the places we stayed and how much each cost.

COTTAGE CHARDONNAY AT CONSTANTIA COTTAGES

We found this place on trip advisor and it cost us $1,155.00 for 30 nights. It was fairly basic but had everything we needed and was reasonably comfortable. The price was great as well. Constantia is an up market location and is very safe. We even had a garage to park our car in. We did have a couple of issues with the owner though. For example one morning he just barged in with an electrician. That sort of behaviour is unacceptable anywhere.

CAMPS BAY BED AND BREAKFAST

We made the rookie mistake of not booking enough nights at the cottage in Constantia. The host had another booking and we needed a place for the night. We spent the afternoon hunting for a place to stay and ended up at a Bed and breakfast in Camps Bay. It was the only available room and cost us around £100 for the night.

WHALE COAST LODGE

We spent 2 nights at this little place in Hermanus. It cost us a total of £44, it was a great base for a couple of days of whale watching.

ARUMVALE COUNTRY HOUSE

We spent a night at this beautiful guest house in Swellendam. Each room is finished to a very high standard. We booked the recently renovated outdoor cottage which was beautiful. Although there was a very large spider creeping around it was worth stopping for the night on our way to Port Elizabeth. The 1 night cost us £26 a absolute bargain.

BAR-T-NIQUE GUEST HOUSE

In the heart of the Garden Route sits Mossel Bay. We found another gem of a guest house and spent the night relaxing and recovering after a long drive. 1 night cost us £38

ELDORADO PRIVATE COLLECTION

We ventured north from Mossel Bay to Oudtshoorn to see some wildlife and mix up the costal drives that we were taking on every day. The main purpose of our stay here though was to visit the Cango caves. We stayed in this cool little apartment/house in a gated community. They all look exactly the same and we were a little confused for a few minutes when we arrived trying to find ours. 1 night cost us £26

SYRINGA TREE COTTAGE

We spent 7 nights here as we really wanted to explore Knysna and the local area. It was a nice break from driving hundreds of miles each day and a chance to relax on some beautiful beaches and see some incredible wildlife. We loved this cottage, it was big and comfortable and we even had a sundeck we could braai on. The 7 nights cost us £170

ALKANTMOOI PRIVATE NATURE RESERVE - KEURSEE

Another fantastic stay along the garden route. This place was a great find in the small town of Plettenberg Bay. The views across the nature reserve were incredible and we even hired a small private boat and spent the day cruising along the river. Plettenberg Bay is also close to the Tsitsikamma National Park which is a must see. The 2 nights cost us £62

BAYSIDE GUESTHOUSE

After 2 weeks of driving along the garden route we arrived in Port Elizabeth. We wanted to spend a few days visiting Addo Elephant park which is roughly a 40 minute drive from PE. The Bayside guest house was comfortable and quiet and a good place to stay whilst visiting the national park. We stayed for 7 nights and it cost us £287.

FRENCH LODGE INTERNATIONAL

We powered our way back towards Cape Town but not before stopping off to stay in George. We stayed in this little thatched cottage and witnessed an incredible thunderstorm. We also ventured up into the mountain roads around George and found baboons. We stayed for 2 nights and it cost us £62.

GORDON'S BAY LUXURY APARTMENTS

Close to Somerset West and Stellenbosch, this is a must if you are visiting Cape Town. We loved this apartment that over looked the ocean and was a great place to stay after several weeks on the road. We stayed for 2 nights and it cost us £78.

SEAHILL LUXURY SELF CATERING APARTMENT

We wanted to spend a couple of nights closer to the centre of Cape Town before flying back to England. This was a great apartment to explore the city and relax in after 2 very exciting and busy months. We stayed for 3 nights and it cost us £152
