Copenhagen

A weekend exploring copenhagen

We decided that we would fit in a city break before the end of the year. We also wanted to visit somewhere new and somewhere that had beautiful Christmas markets to explore. We decided on Copenhagen as we love Scandinavian countries. We had also heard of Tivoli park which was the inspiration behind Disneyland. We also knew that it would be turned into a big Christmas market and winter wonderland.

We stayed in a beautiful shared Airbnb, apparently the Danish don’t use curtains so we had to quickly get used to the idea that getting changed or walking back from the bathroom would be a public display. Apparently privacy is well respected and people don’t stare or peep!

We were a short 15-20 minute walk from the city centre and we wrapped up warm as it was cold out. We made our way to some beautiful little Christmas markets before having the most expensive fish and chips in our lives! We then headed to Arndal spa where we had a massage booked. The warm pool and steam rooms were the perfect way to warm up from the cold. After our very relaxing massages we made our way to a pizza restaurant on a rooftop. We rolled out after a delicious meal and headed back to our room.

The next day we got up and after walking back towards town we explored the city a little more and spent time visiting the Scandanavian shops before heading to Tivoli.

We had to wait for an hour or so before we made our way to the front of the line to buy tickets. It was worth it, the place was beautifully decorated and really felt like a winter wonderland! We got on the tall swing and were raised up high and spun round for fantastic views over the city, we visited the little Christmas market stands and the air was filled with mulled wine and other tasty treats. The entry ticket price was 135 DKK which is roughly £16.30. However that doesn't include and rides and they are an additional cost. While the gardens and park was very beautiful and it is by far the best Christmas market we have been to. It was very similar to the Winter Wonderland in London.

We loved exploring Copenhagen for the weekend and we felt it was more than enough time to get a feel for the city and explore what it has on offer.=
