So Long 2020, hello 2021!

2020 is not what we expected

I think our cover photo for this post pretty much sums up the year. 2020 the most unexpected year has taught us how to deal with restrictions in the travel industry and even thrive.

Let’s be honest, none of us expected 2020 to turn out the way it did. This time last year we were just starting to hear about this new coronavirus in China. It didn’t seem to be anything to really worry about. fast forward a couple of months and we were heading into lockdown with the hope it would be over by summer and then the promise of a vaccine by September. Sadly many people have lost their lives, and livelihoods. It has been a devastating year for everyone and let’s be honest we can’t wait for it to be over.

Despite feeling the effects of Covid-19 strongly (we run a wedding photography business and this travel business) We managed to get out when we could and try to really make the most of the year. When looking back now we are grateful for all the incredible experiences and work that we’ve been able to have.

In early February we were invited to be the faces of Rabs spring/summer collection for Snow & Rock. We hired a Jaguar F-Pace and drove the several hours to Snowdonia National Park. We got up early the next morning for the photoshoot in the mountains before racing home that evening for another project the next day. At valentines we were able to escape to the Monkey Island Hotel for a romantic getaway and fantastic food. A week or so later we were hitting the ski slopes in the French Alps before flying to Lanzarote for some much needed sun. After one day on the island we entered a strict lockdown and caught a rescue flight back to the UK a week later. When we arrived home we went into lockdown again and this time it lasted months.

During lockdown we redesigned our entire website (twice!) and wrote lots of new content that we hadn’t had a chance to work on.

One of the years highlights was when restrictions eased slightly and we were allowed to drive to the coast for the day. Sunbathing on empty beaches and having the whole day outside was incredible.

We took another couple of beach trips over the next month before we could start working again. From August to the end of October we explored the British coast from Cornwall to Wales and Scotland in a Bailey Motorhome. When we got back from Scotland we entered another national lockdown.

During the November lockdown we were able to buy our Ford Transit van which we started to convert into an off-grid camper van. The lockdown made progress difficult but it is a fun project that we will talk more about in a few months time.

After the November lockdown we left on our final adventure of 2020 to the New Forest to stay in a beautiful double shepherds hut.

Planning these adventures around an ongoing global pandemic has been challenging, the threat of travel restrictions and lockdowns has always been on our mind and we are grateful that we were able to get as much time away and work in as we did.

We can now start to plan for the future with the hope of vaccines helping things to return to how they were over the next few months.

We hope you are all as excited for the next adventure as we are.

Thanks for all the support we’ve received from you all throughout 2020, we hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and we hope you have a fantastic 2021!
