March sits just outside peak winter sun season. This means hotel prices are often lower than in January and February, and significantly cheaper than during Easter or other holiday periods.
You’ll find good availability in both large resorts and boutique hotels, particularly if you travel outside school holidays.
Flights are generally more affordable too, making March an ideal time for travellers looking to maximise value without compromising on sunshine, warmth, or access to beaches, attractions, and outdoor activities across the island.
March brings pleasant, spring-like weather across Tenerife, with daytime temperatures in the south generally ranging between 21 and 24°C.
The north is slightly cooler and greener, creating a refreshing contrast for those exploring different regions of the island. Evenings remain mild, making it comfortable to enjoy alfresco dining or evening walks along the beach.
The weather is warm and sunny, which makes March perfect for sightseeing, walking, exploring towns, visiting attractions, or enjoying outdoor activities without the higher summer heat. Overall, it’s a great time to experience the island in all its diversity.
If sunshine is a priority, the south of Tenerife is the ideal base in March. Popular areas such as Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas, and Los Cristianos enjoy consistently lower rainfall and clearer skies compared to the north.
Sheltered by Mount Teide, this region benefits from a dry microclimate, making beach days and outdoor activities more reliable even early in the year.
Many hotels and resorts have heated pools, and sunbeds are easy to find. Combined with warm daytime temperatures and mild evenings, the south offers the perfect conditions for a relaxing holiday in the sun.
Northern Tenerife, including Puerto de la Cruz, La Orotava, and the Anaga region, feels noticeably different in March. The area is cooler than the south, with more cloud cover and lush, green landscapes after winter rains.
It’s ideal for travellers seeking an authentic experience, offering charming traditional towns, local markets, and cultural attractions.
Hiking trails through the Anaga Mountains and volcanic scenery are particularly scenic at this time of year. While rain showers can occur, they are usually brief and followed by sunshine, making the north a refreshing and peaceful alternative to the busier, sun-soaked southern resorts.
We found that the north was quieter than the south, and staying in small boutique hotels offering incredible coastal views, from their infinity pools was exactly what we were after.
March is one of the best months for outdoor activities in Tenerife. Mild temperatures and clear air make hiking trails in Anaga Rural Park, Teide National Park, and the Teno Mountains particularly comfortable and scenic.
Spring flowers begin to bloom at higher elevations, adding bursts of colour to the volcanic landscapes. This is also an ideal time for cycling, birdwatching, and whale watching, with calm seas and pleasant conditions.
Exploring Tenerife’s unique terrain such as volcanoes, cliffs, and coastal paths is easier without the summer heat. Overall, March offers a perfect balance of mild weather and outdoor adventure for active travellers.
While Tenerife’s coastal areas feel warm in March, Mount Teide often remains much cooler. Snow is still possible at the summit, and early morning temperatures can drop close to freezing, so layers are essential.
Visitors to Teide National Park should check road conditions and dress appropriately for the altitude. Clear days offer breathtaking views of the volcanic landscapes, with the dramatic contrast between snow-capped peaks and sunny beaches along the coast.
This makes March a unique time to experience both Tenerife’s warm lowlands and its chilly, high-elevation scenery in one trip.
March is one of the quieter months to enjoy Tenerife’s beaches. Popular spots like Playa del Duque, Playa de las Teresitas, and smaller hidden coves are noticeably less crowded, making it easy to find sunbeds and space to relax.
The sea is cooler than in summer but generally swimmable, particularly along the southern coast. Natural pools and sheltered bays are perfect for a peaceful dip.
With quieter beaches and fewer tourists, March offers a more tranquil experience, ideal for sunbathing, leisurely walks along the sand, and enjoying Tenerife’s coastline without the summer crowds.
Safety Warning | Please be aware that tidal pools can be dangerous at high tide. Recently some tourist were pulled out of the pools by rough waves and sadly drowned. Alays check the sea conditions before entering any body of water around the coast.
Tenerife is one of the best places in Europe for year round whale and dolphin sightings, and March offers excellent conditions. The waters around the island are home to resident populations of pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins, meaning sightings are common throughout the year.
In March, calmer seas and fewer tour boats create a more relaxed experience on the water. Trips from Los Gigantes, Costa Adeje and Puerto Colón run daily and often have very high success rates.
With fewer crowds than peak months, March is ideal for a quieter, more respectful and enjoyable whale watching experience.
Depending on the year, Tenerife’s famous Carnival can extend into early March, particularly in Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz.
This is one of the island’s most important cultural celebrations, with colourful parades, live music, street performances and elaborate costumes filling the city streets. The carnival is the second largest in the world.
If your visit coincides with Carnival, accommodation in northern towns can book out quickly and prices may rise. Transport and restaurants can also be busier than usual.
Travellers looking for a quieter stay during this period may prefer basing themselves in the south, where Carnival has far less impact on daily life.
March is an ideal time to explore Tenerife’s food scene without the crowds of peak season. Restaurants feel quieter, service is more personal, and it is easier to secure tables at well known local favourites, especially outside the main resort areas.
Seasonal produce is at its best, with fresh vegetables, local cheeses and excellent seafood widely available. Traditional dishes such as papas arrugadas, grilled fish and slow cooked goat stew feature heavily on menus.
March is also a great time for wine tasting in the north of the island, where cooler temperatures make vineyard visits particularly enjoyable.
Hiring a car in March is simple and good value, with wide availability and lower prices than peak holiday periods. Roads are quieter, parking is easier, and driving feels relaxed compared to the busy summer months.
Having a car gives you the freedom to explore beyond the main resorts, from remote beaches and volcanic landscapes to mountain villages and natural swimming pools.
Distances are short, so you can comfortably experience both the north and south of the island in one trip. Mild March weather also makes driving comfortable throughout the day.
March is one of the most well rounded months to visit Tenerife, sitting neatly between winter sun season and the busier spring period. The weather is warm and reliable, making it comfortable for both beach days and exploring the island.
Crowds are noticeably lighter than in peak months, which means attractions feel calmer and restaurants are easier to enjoy without long waits.
Prices for flights and accommodation are also more reasonable, adding to the appeal. Whether you are travelling as a couple, family or solo, March allows you to experience Tenerife at a relaxed pace while still enjoying excellent conditions across the island.
