Kawasan Falls Travel Guide

KAWASAN FALLS

Iconic set of waterfalls in the Philippines located on the island of Cebu

GETTING TO THE FALLS

After taking our motorbike from our guesthouse in the  Moalboal region heading south towards Kawasan Falls. We had got stuck behind a disgusting old truck for a few miles and when we parked our faces were all black and we were happy to wash them with the fresh water from the falls.

There are also local bus services that you can use to get to the falls from Moalboal which run roughly every 30 mins. This is also the cheapest option at around PHP 20 and takes about 45 minutes to reach Kawasan Falls.

A local trike can also take you, they will also wait a few hours that you can negotiate and then drive you back to Moalboal. This is also the most costly method though.

If you are confident enough and have experience then we suggest hiring your own scooter/motorbike as it gives you the most flexibility.

ARRIVING AT KAWASAN FALLS

The walk from the main car park is 15 minutes and locals will offer to show you the way. It is easy enough to find it on your own.

The entrance fee is PHP 45 and we suggest getting there early. There are also lockers available to store valuables. The locker rental costs around PHP 100.

THE FALLS

We woke before sunrise and got there nice and early but there was still a group of people playing in the water. After a couple of hours it was very busy and no chance of getting photos without people in the background.

Kawasan Falls is actually a series of falls made famous by the large first waterfall that you come to. We spent time enjoying the fall and the bamboo rafts that are tied up before moving onto the higher up falls as more people started to arrive.

Swimming in the falls and enjoying the beautiful walks around the falls was amazing, but we also enjoyed jumping from some of the upper falls into the pools. Some locals showed us where to climb up to be able to jump. It was a pretty hidden path but if you look hard enough you will find it.

OTHER ACTIVITIES & IMPORTANT INFORMATION

For PHP 1,500 you can book a canyoneering trip which takes 2.5-3 hours and is a fun way to explore the falls and also means you will be able to do all the great jumping spots.

The restaurant at the main falls charges you to sit at a table and is overpriced.

The shoulder season which is late December or early June is often the quietest time to visit.

Group tours to visit the falls can be booked online.
